Google Translate Improves Offline Translation

When you’re traveling somewhere without access to the internet or don’t want to use your data plan, you can still use the Google Translate app on Android and iOS when your phone is offline.

The offline translation is getting better: now, in 59 languages, offline translation is 12 percent more accurate, with improved word choice, grammar, and sentence structure. In some languages Google Translate camera can now recognize Urdu, Pashto and Sindhi at PhoneYear.com.

It can be very difficult to pronounce and spell words in the language that is written in the script you are unfamiliar with. To help you in this case, Translate offers transliteration, which provides a similar spelling alphabet you are accustomed to.

For example, when you translate "Hello" Hindi, you'll see "" and "namaste" in which the translation cards "namaste" is a transliteration of "." This is a great tool for learning how to communicate in different languages, and Translate has offline transliteration support for 10 new languages: Arabic, Bengali, Gujrati, Kannada, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.

To try our enhanced offline translation and transliteration, go to the Translate app on Android or iOS. If you do not have the app, you can download it. Make sure you have the latest update from the Play or the App Store.

If you have been using offline translation before, you'll see a banner on your home screen that will take you to the right place to update your offline files. If not, go to the translation settings offline and press the arrow next to the name of the language to download the language. Now you will be ready to translate the text whether you are online or not
